The Center for Women’s Health at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center is a unique environment in which special care is given to women in all stages of life--we are here to cater to your unique needs.

The newly designed fifth floor of Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center is geared to provide services exclusively for women from prenatal care and hormone replacement therapy to breast treatment and more.

Gynecology

Dr. San Martin received his medical degree from Cetec University in the Dominican Republic. His residency training was completed at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He has been in private practice since 1991, and came to the Haines City area in 1995. In late 2011, Dr. San Martin retired from obstetrics and is only practicing gynecology at this time.

Dr. Alkass received his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. His residency training was at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD. He has been in private practice since 1995 and moved to the Haines City area in 1997. He received his Certification by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology in 1998.

Dr. Salamanca earned his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. His served two residencies; first at the Catholic Medical Center, New York, Brooklyn and Queens, Inc. (affiliated with Cornell University); and then at Ponce Regional Hospital, Ponce, Puerto Rico. He practiced OB/GYN with the Air Force for three years, and has been in practice in Central Florida since 1991.

Dr. Edmund Andah received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Ghana in Africa. He went on to complete his residency and training through Cambridge University in England, where he became a member of the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Andah & his family moved to the United States where he completed a second residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, CT, and became a Resident Member of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. His family then moved to central Florida in 2006. He is Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology since 2009.

Dr LaReesa Ferdinand’s medical degree was received from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, LA. Her residency program was completed at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center, a division of Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. She received her American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology certification in 2009 and has practiced in the Central Florida area since 2007.

Breast Surgery

New Jersey College of Medicine, Newark, NJ, awarded Dr. Carifi’s medical degree, and his surgical residency was completed at the same location. He was first certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1976, and has maintained that certification continuously. Dr. Carifi devotes his practice to breast care and breast surgery.

Dr. Sinclair earned her medical degree from Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, CA, and completed her residency training at Howard University Hospital, Washington, DC. She further trained with a fellowship at University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. She has been Board Certified in Surgery since 1994. Dr. Sinclair devotes much of her practice to breast surgery.


Glenda (Susie) Bailey, CNM, ARNP

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner

Susie completed her associate’s degree in nursing in 1994 from Redlands College in Edmond, OK. In 1996 she began working as a labor delivery nurse and she found her calling. She then returned to college at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL, where she received her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2005. Susie then continued on to Frontier School of Midwifery Family Nursing and has been working as a midwife since 2008.

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner

Nancy Zaharis received her associate of science degree in Nursing in 1982 from Miami-Dade Community College, Miami, FL. She worked mainly in labor and delivery for several years until deciding to return to school and obtained her certification in nurse midwifery in 1993 from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. She has many years of experience in labor and delivery and came to the Central Florida area in 2005.
